SportsAdda review — the calm sports app, judged on its own terms.
This is an honest assessment of SportsAdda as a live-scores and news product. We compare it against Cricbuzz, ESPN Cricinfo, Sofascore and Dream Sports across speed, depth of coverage, multi-sport scope, and ad load. The store rating numbers are quoted from public Google Play and App Store pages.
How it compares to Cricbuzz, ESPN and Sofascore
Cricbuzz is the fastest cricket scores app in India and has the deepest IPL commentary. SportsAdda is slower on raw ball-by-ball latency (typically 5-10 seconds behind Cricbuzz on a controlled test) but compensates with a calmer UI and editorial context. ESPN Cricinfo has unmatched archive depth but a heavy ad load; SportsAdda runs no ads. Sofascore is the strongest international football scores app; SportsAdda's football desk covers the same leagues but pairs the data with Indian football editorial. On a phone running a one-week comparison (same network, same notifications enabled), the SportsAdda app used roughly 3% battery per match-day and zero data while the screen was off, against 6% for Sofascore and 8% for Cricbuzz. That delta comes from passive push vs polling. The full methodology is on our how it works page. Where we don't compete: live video. None of the apps in this comparison re-stream third-party broadcasts, and we don't link to pirate streams either. SportsAdda links to the league's official broadcast partner where one exists in India. For IPL that's the JioCinema / Viacom 18 stream; for international cricket it's the Disney+ Hotstar / JioCinema feed; for football it's Viacom / Sony / FanCode depending on the league.| Feature | SportsAdda | Cricbuzz | ESPN Cricinfo | Sofascore |

Where SportsAdda falls short
Three honest weaknesses. First, the app does not live-stream matches — that's the leagues' broadcast partners, and we link to them rather than re-streaming. Second, second-screen polls and prediction widgets are absent by design; if you want a betting-odds companion, this isn't it. Third, the app is Android 9 and iOS 14 minimum — older devices will not see the listing, and we don't ship a separate "lite" build for older hardware. We also don't cover every global league. The cricket desk covers BCCI, ICC, BBL, CPL, SA20, PSL, The Hundred and the Ranji Trophy round-up; if a smaller Associate tour isn't on the BCCI or ICC feed, you won't see it in the home strip. Same for football — ISL and the top-five European leagues are first-class, AFC Asian Cup qualifiers and Durand Cup are second-class. A fourth weakness we accept: the alert engine is quiet by default, which means some users will think nothing is happening and never turn alerts on. We could ship with alerts enabled, but the data says users with alerts enabled have a higher 30-day churn than users who opt in deliberately, because default alerts overwhelm. We prefer the slower path.Where the store ratings come from
The Google Play rating (4.6 / 5) and the App Store rating (4.5 / 5) quoted in our marketing materials are taken from the live store listing pages, not from a curated sample. We don't moderate reviews and we don't pay for placement — the rating you see in our hero strip is the same number the store shows. Every rating sample of more than ~50 has a 95% confidence interval of about ±0.2, so a 4.6 today could be a 4.5 next week without anyone doing anything wrong. We treat the rating as a trend line, not a fixed metric. If you spot a wrong score in the app, the report flow is in-match — tap the match card, choose "Report a score", submit. The editorial desk reviews each submission against the official league feed within five minutes during live play. A note on the negative reviews: the most common themes are "the app doesn't have live video" (correct, by design) and "I can't find a specific league" (usually because we don't cover it — see the limits section above). The platform team reads the negative reviews weekly and the editorial team reads them monthly; the patterns feed the next-quarter planning. How this review was written
This page is written by the editorial desk, not the marketing team. The comparisons are based on a one-week controlled test on a Pixel 7 running the same firmware and the same network, with notifications enabled for each app in turn. The methodology is reproducible: same device, same network, same notifications, same one-week window. Where a comparison is qualitative (UI calm, editorial depth, permissions list), the judgment is the editorial desk's, and we name who made it. Where it's quantitative (battery, latency, rating), the number is on the page and the source is linked. We don't publish a comparison we wouldn't sign with our name. Disagree with the conclusion? Send the disagreement to [email protected] with "review feedback" in the subject line. We publish reader responses once a quarter and link them from the bottom of this page; the next response window closes on the last day of the current quarter.Review FAQ
How was this review verified?
The rating numbers are from public store pages; the battery data is from a one-week, same-device test; the editorial coverage list is published in full on each sport hub. Where we made a comparison claim, the methodology is linked.
Is SportsAdda affiliated with Cricbuzz, ESPN or Sofascore?
No. SportsAdda is an independent product. The comparison is editorial, not commercial — none of those companies are paid to appear here and none has reviewed this page before publication.
How do I report a wrong score?
Tap the match card → "Report a score". The editorial desk reconciles each submission within five minutes during live play.
Why doesn't SportsAdda have live video?
Live broadcast rights belong to the leagues and their broadcast partners. We link to the official stream rather than re-streaming because re-streaming would put us on the wrong side of the rights contracts and we don't want that risk. The stream lives on the broadcaster's app.
How often is this review updated?
Once a month, on the first working day. The next scheduled update is on the first working day of next month.
